BETTY: Sensory Substitution Costume

As a wearable performance costume, BETTY has hand mounted cameras that feed to a VR headset mounted inside her headpiece. With training, the performer is able to literally see the world through BETTY's eyes, even when they're not looking at the same thing.

BETTY is a re-imagined Pale Man from Guillermo del Toro’s Pan's Labyrinth (2006), built for New Zealand's World of Wearable Art Festival. She's born from trickster mythologies and has shape-shifted into a priceless cubist artwork. Don't get too close or she'll gobble you up.
